FAQs
wILL THE FX THROTTLE WORK ON MY BIKE?
Currently, we have two versions of the FX Twist Throttle.
The plug-and-play option works on stock Surron bikes, from Segway x260’s up through the Light Bee and Ultra Bee. This version can also be used on programmable controllers. It also works on Eride Pro, Talaria, Altis Sigma, and other bikes (you may need to source your own connector or solder the wires directly). This version is also recommended for the TORP and VENTUS controllers.
The other version of the FX Throttle is meant to work specifically with aftermarket controllers, since they have programmable throttle calibration. This allows you to get the most resolution and use the full potential of the FX Throttle. The voltage output range is wider, and doesn’t work on stock controllers. Some examples of compatible controllers include EBMX, ASI / BAC, KO, and any VESC-based controller.
Torp and Nucular controllers, however, seem to work best with the stock version (.9-4.2v), even though they are aftermarket controllers. These controllers don’t play nice with the 0 volt level of the aftermarket version of the FX Throttle. This may be because the Torp internally scales the voltage down to a 3v range (most bike controllers use 5v throttle input).
Talaria, Eride Pro’s, and Altis Sigma bikes work with the stock controller version of the FX Throttle (the .9-4.2v version). For Talaria and Altis Sigma, the correct connector can be added for you before shipping if you put your type of bike in the notes section at checkout. For bikes with extra buttons on their throttles, see the notes below.
My stock throttle has extra buttons, and the FX has no buttons. What can I do?
There are options for adding controls back to your handlebar, whether you have 1-3 buttons on your throttle. You can choose the appropriate attachment based on how many buttons you need to replace. For instance, some bikes have a headlight and start button on the throttle - so you’d want to grab a two-button handlebar attachment and solder those connections to the wires coming from the controller. Note that this will take some experimentation and research on your part to determine the correct wiring, as well as skills to solder and seal the connections properly.
Talarias and Eride Pro’s have extra buttons on their stock throttles. The functionality of these can be reclaimed by adding an attachment with the same number of buttons.
You can view these handlebar mounted button options here on Amazon.
How tough is the fx throttle?
We designed the FX Throttle to be not only beautiful, but functional and durable as well. Because it’s made from billet CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum, it doesn’t break like the plastic stock throttles, or the aftermarket throttles like the Magura or Domino. In short, the FX Throttle is nearly bulletproof - we haven’t had one break yet.
Replacement parts for the FX Throttle will be readily available for purchase, in case you want to get a new part of the assembly - without needing to buy an entirely new unit.
what grips do I need to use?
The same grips that work with any other e-bike twist throttle work with the FX Throttle. Namely, a 7/8” standard grip for the left side of your handlebars, and a 1” inner diameter grip to fit over the throttle tube of the FX Throttle. Grip glue helps on smooth handlebars and is recommended.
Is it waterproof?
All of the electronics are sealed inside, and impervious to moisture. The FX Throttle has an IP66 rating, so you’ll be fine in anything short of full immersion in water for an extended period. And now with the updated stainless steel bearing, there is less chance of corosion.
is it easy to maintain?
One of the core strengths of the FX Throttle is it’s simplicity. Every part can be disassembled and cleaned with ease. It’s likely one of the simplest parts on the bike to work on. And we have maintenance videos here on the site to guide you along any task that requires doing!
is there a warranty?
Of course! Each FX Throttle comes with a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects. If any problems arise, we’ll take care of you! Even if you damage your throttle in a crash, we can repair it (usually free of charge) and get it back to you quickly.
